Dogs need blood too.

Project David is the voice for all canine blood component patients and families nationwide.

How We help

The moment a dog needs blood, a family is no longer just worried. They are making decisions about risk, cost, care, time, and hope — often all at once.

That is why we are here: with education, donor awareness, financial assistance, and honest support for families navigating canine transfusion care.

Project David exists so no family has to make a high-stakes decision without clear information, steady support, and room to choose what is right for their dog.

Our Mission

Make sure no dog goes without the blood it needs, and no family faces that moment without answers. Project David provides free education about canine blood transfusions, recruits and honors donor dogs, and offers financial assistance for families seeking care.

Every resource we offer is free. Always. And we are here to help you understand your choices, never to make the decision for you.

A promise, named for a dog

Project David is named for David, a black-and-white miniature schnauzer whose final medical crisis involved severe anemia, emergency care, and blood transfusion decisions that came with fear, cost, uncertainty, and too little time to understand it all.

His story is why Project David exists: to help families learn about canine blood transfusions before they are in crisis, understand what questions to ask before, during, and after care, and feel less alone when urgent decisions arise.

We do not tell families what to choose. We help them understand the choice — and make it with clear eyes.
